Big Country Dignitaries and Community Members Celebrate National Day of Prayer

May 2, 2024

ABILENE, Texas – BCFS Health and Human Services-Abilene hosted a free community breakfast today at Hardin-Simmons University in partnership with Hendrick Health to honor the National Day of Prayer.

Community leaders offered prayers, including State Rep. Stan Lambert, County Commissioner Randy Williams, Hardin-Simmons University President Eric Bruntmyer, Alliance for Women & Children Executive Director LaQuiera Gantt and more guests. The Cooper High School Junior ROTC presented the colors and Greg Young provided music.

Kevin Dinnin, President and Chief Executive Officer of FirstDay Foundation, at one point during the event, awarded a grant to Robert Walker, a student from Hardin-Simmons University, who had previously resided at Our House, a program of BCFS Health and Human Services-Abilene. The gift will clear the former resident’s student debt. In the touching and unexpected moment, the young man – who also works for Aramark, the university’s food service provider – was overcome with emotion.

Created in 1952 and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman, the National Day of Prayer is an inspiring way for people of all faiths to pray together.
